Sunday Fun Day! 
Pancake Breakfast

Recommended for ages 4+

This is an opportunity for the whole family to see an amazing selection of films from around the world. Stay for a few, or stay for them all; there are four short film programs to choose from: Family Fun Films, Wild Animal Animation, the Indigenous Spotlight, and films that are Made in Canada.

Add workshops to the mix and make your own animation using some wacky props, and paper cut-outs. With all of this excitement, you’ve got a truly irresistible afternoon filled with activities for the whole family. New this year, we will have Virtual Reality demonstrations after the pancakes! 

Come early for the Pancake Breakfast in the morning, its included in the price of admission: $5/person, for the entire day! 

 

 

 

 

Family Fun Films

Recommended for ages 4+

Night becomes day, and night wants everything to stay dark. A little person finds a friendly pocket to fit in, and packing a suitcase becomes a family bonding affair. Fun for the whole family, these films dazzle and amaze our inner child with some of the year's best short animation from Canada and around the world.
Themes: food, animals, travel, stop-motion, family, friends, art

Wild Animal Animation

​This collection of the finest international animation features animals in a variety of forms. From stop-motion to hand-drawn to computer generated, these films take us to magical places, explore human nature, and uncover the purpose of life.
Themes: change, meaning of life, friendship, animals, personal growth, tenderness

Canadians are renowned internationally for our unique and diverse perspectives. Drawing inspiration from every corner of the world, including Japanese anime and a Pixar blockbuster, these films center the work of new and established Canadian voices.
Themes: mystery, death, tradition, imagination, adolescence

Indigenous Spotlight

From the Sami people of Sweden to the Diné people of the Navajo desert, we turn the spotlight on unique Indigenous cultures across Canada and around the world. These films reveal the important role culture plays in our lives, and how traditional practices are vital to ground us.
Themes: cultural preservation, language, colonialism, craftsmanship

Communicating and Relating

Recommended for ages 5+ (grades 1-4)

Showcasing many forms of animation, this collection of funny and heartwarming short films ask young students to consider how we relate to friends and family, and inspire us to make the most of these relationships. Some of the filmmakers will also be in attendance to discuss their work and answer questions.

Foreign and/or Family

Recommended for grades 6-7

These films are based on the experiences of families from near and far, questioning strongly held beliefs about circumstances that weigh us down, while highlighting strategies that help us succeed.
Themes: moral complexity, friendship, poverty, gender roles, adolescence, death, family

No Bully, No Problem

Recommended for grades 5-7

Whether you're a hedgehog defending the place you call home or a young person trying to find your place in the world, these films inspire us to push back and take a stand, and demonstrate that unapologetically being who you are is satisfying and powerful.
Themes: finding your voice, self-reliance, adolescence, injustice, love, gender roles, bullying
